D'Lux Duchess
Duchess came to us as a 5 year old, pure-bred Cocker Spaniel. Her people could no
longer keep her & needed to find a home for her, so she came into our Sanctuary. She
was so spoiled.. a leash & collar for every day of the week. And a special leash & collar
for every holiday. A whole bag full of toys. And a broken heart because her people were
leaving her & she didn't know why.

Twice, Duchess has been "almost adopted" but the humans decided they didn't want a
dog that wasn't perfect... You see, Duchess has a low thyroid. She has to take pills every
morning & evening. The pills don't cost much & she loves taking them because she gets
special treats .... & ya better not forget, because she will yell at ya as a reminder that she
hasn't had her treats (& pills) yet.

So Duchess has been with us for about 8 years now. She's about 13 years old & we've
given up hope that she will find her special human to love her. She sleeps every night,
cuddled next to our shelter manager & the other small dogs. But she would have loved to
have the same special care she had with her first home. It's too bad those potential
adoptors don't know how much love they missed out on because of a little pill.

6/8/08 Update
Duchess is totally blind now & she is almost completely deaf. But she still knows when
there is food in the room. She still loves her grooming & tummy rubs.  Perhaps we should
have renamed  her "Timex"

We know that not everyone can adopt one of our dogs.
To maintain our no-kill sanctuary, we need to provide vaccinations, food,
toys & shelter
But you can help save a life by sponsoring Duchess
