Hi, my name is Friend.
One of the nice ladies at Doggone Dogs was on her way home from work one day & saw
me. I was scrounging food on the shoulder of a very busy 4-lane highway. She turned
around & came back for me but I was too afraid of people to let her near me. She gave
me lots of treats but I still didn't trust her. She left & I was sorry to see the food
go.. I was so hungry.
But she came back & gave me yummy food from a can. I didn't know it but she had put
tranquilizers in it so I would stop running away from her.
After an hour of eating lots of food & treats, I still wasn't sleepy so she gave me more.
The she left a trail of food & treats. I followed it. Over & over she did this. Finally, the
treats went right up to her van. Then she put some just inside the door. I ate it then
ran away. Then she put a trail up onto the seat. I was sooooo hungry so I kept following
the food. Four and a half hours later, I finally followed the trail into the car & up on
the back seat, she slid the door shut on me. I was scared & wanted to run away but
there was no place to go. She got in the front seat & started the car.
I had never been in a car before & I thought I was going to have a heart attack!!!
When we got to her house, she left me in the car. The tranquilizers she had given me
took over & I fell asleep. Later she carried me to a safe, warm place & took care of me.
It took me a long time to get used to having people around me but having my tummy full
of good food has made it easier to learn to trust.
Now I want my own home. I like it here with all the other dogs, but if I could have my
own home, then the people at Doggone Dogs could help another dog.
Isn't there someone who would love me as their own?
