D'Lux Pride of Tennessee   (Gatlin)
He's beautiful: Full, thick, mahogany sable & white coat.
He'd been a  member of the family since they purchased him in a
pet store 5 years previosly.
But Gatlin has serious issues.  While in NY, he lived in the house
with the rest of the family. When they moved to FL, he started
marking his territory in the new house. So he was banished to the
patio. Once on the patio, Gatlin amused himself the way shelties
do... he barked at lizards, birds, anything that moved.
And the neighbors complained.
So the family bought him a crate. Gatlin spent much of his time in
the crate & over a period of 2 years, he became very possessive
of his crate. Anyone reaching in to get him was in danger of a nip.
The solution? Surrender him to sheltie rescue ...
A year later, Gatlin still has some issues. He has been tested for
thyroid issues & other possible physical reasons for his problems.
It was found he was suffering from erlychiosis & he has been on a
long-term program of treatment.
Gatlin is still part of our Sanctuary program & is still trying to
find his niche. His best buddy is Shyne, the husky, but he doesn't
really want other dogs in his space. He has become more tolerant
of the cats & he loves going for walks on the leash.
Due to Gatlin's unpredictable personality, he will not be offered
for adoption but will remain in Sanctuary until it is time for him to
cross the Bridge.
Gatlin, & all of us at the Sanctuary, wish to thank all of the
supporters who have donated funds for Gatlin's testing costs.
Thanks to you, he feels a lot better & can concentrate on feeling
secure once again.
This picture was taken on
6/5/05 when he was
surrendered to us. He was
in the crate watching his
people leave & not knowing
why he wasn't going too.

Update 05/05/08:  Shyne has gone to a new home & Gatlin no longer has his friend but he
has learned to tolerate a couple of the other dogs.... Major accomplishment for him.
He has learned to love head rubs, playing with his toys, & playing obedience games.
Gatlin has come a long way with the help of Sheltie lovers like you. Thank you for helping him.
