| January 2004: I was at the Miami Dade County Animal Control when a young couple came in with this 9 mo old maltese. They were requesting euthanasia. I was close enough that I could smell the yeast infection... which is often a secondary skin infection for demodex. I asked them if I could have her. While they were discussing it among themselves, I went to look at a cat. I came back & there she was in her crate. They left w/out giving me any info on her other than what I had already heard. Her skin was so irritated that it was beet red when we parted the fur. All of her hair was falling out. (We ended up shaving most of it.) What you see in the pictures is the beginning of new coat. January '05: Lala's coat is still not completely grown in & she still has skin/coat sensitivities, But her personality has certainly developed. She is just wonderful. See the video March '06 - Lala ha been taken completely off commercial dog food. Without the grains that are found in commercial foods, she is almost 100% recovered. No more gummy eyes. She has energy & overall evidence of well being. The vets didn't find the food allergy but trial & error has prevailed. |
